Range of Sports in Hangzhou Asian Games
The 19th edition of the Asian Games was held in Hangzhou, China, from September 23 to October 8, 2023. The games featured nearly 12,000 athletes from 45 nations and territories competing for 481 gold medals. With a record 481 events, the games showcased unique sports, including kabaddi, dragon boating, and the newly introduced Esports. The games also featured several sports that are unlikely to be seen in any other major continental or global competitions. The games were a great opportunity for athletes from different nations and territories to come together and compete in a friendly and competitive environment.
The Hangzhou Asian Games were unique in their own way, showcasing a variety of sports that are not commonly seen in other major continental or global competitions. The games were also notable for their use of technology and the “heart to heart” motto adopted by China. The games were held at 56 venues, most of them in Hangzhou but a few in other Chinese cities. The Hangzhou Olympic Sports Centre Venue Cluster was the main location for the games, which included a sports stadium, gymnasium, aquatics center, tennis center, and squash courts.
The games featured several core Olympic sports, including archery, artistic swimming, boxing, breaking, hockey, modern pentathlon, taekwondo, and weightlifting. Additionally, a new array of sports were added in Hangzhou Asian Game: chess, esports, boardgame, roller skating, karate, and cricket. These sports added an interesting aspect to the audience. There were more national athletes present in Hangzhou where people could cheer for their country. The games were a great opportunity for athletes to qualify for the Olympics and represent their nations.
