This was my sixth article in the JSR Program:
Sport-Storm in Spring
Spring is perfect weather to enjoy a lot of activities. Winter recently ended, and as temperature are quickly skyrocketing, sports are starting to rise in popularity again. In Beijing, this period is usually the time to start soccer, track, and softball.
At my school, the International School of Beijing, they hosted a sports event, where students from all grade levels could watch games that were held for three days. A lot of game time is during class time, but teachers let students go and cheer them on. The sound of cheers is very loud; there is always a roaring applause when someone takes a first place medal. Students never go back to their home when school ends, there is once another round of games to watch. One day, after watching the men’s 100m track finals and the women’s soccer match finals, it was already 6 p.m. Everyone including athletes were exhausted and hungry; the enormous snack bar was awaiting. Starting from instant noodles, a variety of sport drinks and ice creams were a big hit for students and athletes.
This event is called APAC, which is an abbreviation of Asia Pacific Activities Conference. Originally, APAC invited many athletes from schools across the sea, but tis time the school invited schools only in China. However, there were still many athletes that filled the whole school. Unfortunately, this event could not be hosted from any school during the last three years due to the corona outbreak. It was very meaningful to host APAC in our school. I felt very lucky to see this large sporting event for the first time at my high school. As covid has become a quick moment of the past, I want to spend any opportunity training to become an athlete in hopes of one day participating in APAC.
